Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in 1892, Harriet Elizabeth Williams (nee Thompson?) first became a professional midget when still a young child. In her early career she was known as Princess Weenie Wee (or Winnie Wee), "The Animated Chocolate Eclair". She worked at the Dreamland Circus Sideshow from 1908 to 1917 and with Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1910, where she was said to have befriended Chimchim, a trained chimpanzee. Wee Wee alleged that her height was 17 inches and her weight but 12 pounds. Wrote the Oakland Tribune in 1910, "Unlike many such prodigies of human nature, she is quick and alert of mind, enjoys the best of health, and is quite as much interested in the crowds that wonder at her as are the people who gaze for the first time on such an infinitesimal lady."

In the 1920s, Wee Wee appeared on the Negro Vaudeville Circuit with the four Whitman Sisters, a singing-dancing-comedy troupe. She was also a member of the Strange Folk Society, a sort of freaks' union, while with Barnum & Bailey in 1924.
